Caring for Gold and Silver Jewellery

Gold and silver last a lifetime with very little care. The trick is to clean them gently and store them apart.

Cleaning gold

• Soak the piece for ten minutes in warm water with a drop of mild soap.
• Brush gently around the stones with a very soft toothbrush.
• Rinse, then pat dry with a soft cloth.

Cleaning silver

• Silver darkens in the air. A silver polishing cloth brings the shine back in a minute.
• Store it in a closed pouch to slow the darkening.

What never to do

• Never wear your jewellery in the pool, the sea or the shower.
• Put perfume and creams on first, and your jewellery last.
• Never store pieces loose together: gold scratches gold, and stones scratch everything.
